A Dutch painter who worked in the region or city of Brussels from around 1470 to 1500 is known as the master of the Barbara legend .

The master of the Barbara legend , not known by name, is named after his triptych with scenes from the Barbara legend . Its fragments are now distributed in museums in Brussels and Bruges.

The master's division of labor?

By using transparent paint, the master of the Barbara legend achieved a special light effect on the facial features of his figures. Since, in contrast to this more refined technique, other parts of some of his works seem less artistic or created in a different style, it is assumed that the master used other painters in his workshop in order to increase productivity in a division of labor. Also z. B. a part of the triptych ascribed to him, the Job Altar in Cologne, assigned to the master of the Catherine legend.
