Master of the Lautenbach High Altar (carver)

As a master of Lautenbacher Hochaltars is late Middle carver denotes that the central part of the tripartite Hochaltars in the Sanctuary Mary crowning in Lautenbach in Ortenaukreis has created. The high altar was consecrated in 1483. Like the surrounding Renchtal, Lautenbach was part of the Strasbourg bishopric and the master shows the influence of Strasbourg sculpture of his time.

The middle part, the so-called shrine, consists of three carved figures, a Mary with the child surrounded by two saints. They are surrounded by pictures with scenes from the life of Mary on the wings of the altar. The three sculptures are covered by rich tendrils . In an outstanding integration of the art of carving and painting, the carved Gothic architectural elements that surround the figures in the middle section combine with the pictures to form a complete ensemble .

The painter who created the pictures of the altar is also referred to as the master of the Lautenbach high altar .
