Master of San Miniato
A painter in Florence in the 15th century is referred to as the Master of San Miniato ( Italian Maestro di San Miniato) . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after eight pictures in the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte in Florence. These unsigned pictures were recognized as the joint work of this master, and over time more than 50 other works were attributed to them. Below is a series of images of the Madonna . These paintings are an example of the extensive production of pictures of this kind in Florence around 1480 and are recognizable as the work of the master by repeated typical physiognomy of the baby Jesus .
The master of San Miniato is influenced by Sandro Botticelli , Filippo Lippi and Andrea del Verrocchio and also Francesco Botticini . His work is a less well-known example of the early Tuscan Renaissance . In addition to the pictures in San Miniato, works by the master can be found in the Museo Bardini and the Museo del Bigallo in Florence as well as in the Detroit Institute of Arts . Occasionally, other private works by the master are identified.
