Master of Zamora
The Master of Zamora ( sp. Maestro de Zamora ) is an unknown Spanish Gothic painter who worked in the region around Zamora in Spain in the second half of the 16th century . At that time, today's Spain was still divided into independent provinces and Zamora belonged to the Kingdom of León , where an independent style of painting developed under the influence of Flemish painters.
The master of Zamora got his emergency name after oil paintings that he created for the cathedral in Zamora and which can be found there today in the Museo Catedralicio of this church. It still combines the main currents of international Gothic with influences from local Spanish art, but also shows the influence of the Italian Renaissance . Like his contemporary, the Master of Astorga who is also unknown by name and who works in his neighborhood, the beginning of the Renaissance can also be seen in the paintings of the Master of Zamora in the art of the Kingdom of León .
