Melaleuca diosmifolia is a species of plant fromthe myrtle family (Myrtaceae)native to Australia.

Melaleuca diosmifolia is an upright, open shrub and reaches a height of 1 to 3 m. The flowers are green and appear in September and October.

Distribution and locations

Melaleuca diosmifolia is native to Australia and occurs naturally only in the state of Western Australia in the vicinity of the city of Albany . It is naturalized in other areas of Western Australia and Victoria.

The species grows on shallow sandy soils, such as sandy clay, as well as on granite.

It is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in southern Australia. In Victoria, the plant is classified as invasive. It grows here in coastal heaths and along roads. It displaces native species. In addition, the fire regime changes the areas overgrown by it due to the high proportion of dead wood.

Taxonomy

The species Melaleuca diosmifolia was first described in 1807 by Henry Charles Andrews in "The Botanist's Repository for New, and Rare Plants".
