Melanchaetes
Melanchaetes ( ancient Greek Μελαγχαίτης "black hair ") is in Ovid's Metamorphoses and Hygins Fabulae one of the dogs of the Aktaion who eventually tear him apart. He'd fallen back on the hunt against the pack, but then took a shortcut across a ridge. Melanchaetes was the first bitch to attack Aktaion and wounded in the back, while two other bitches, Theridamas and Oresitrophos , grab his shoulders.
