Melaneus (archer)
Melaneus ( Greek Μελανεύς ) is a famous archer in Greek mythology .
Melaneus was a son of the god Apollo . He was king of the Dryoper and conquered Epeiros . Later he came to Messinia to see Perieres , who assigned him the land near the Karnasian grove and named the town there after his wife Oichalia . His children are Eurytus and Ambrakia , after whom the city of Ambrakia in Epeiros was named.
