Melanie Onn
Melanie Onn (* 19th June 1979 in Grimsby ) is a British politician of the Labor Party and former member of the House of Commons . She represented the Great Grimsby constituency from 2015 to 2019 .
Onn grew up in her hometown of Grimsby and lived on social housing projects for youth for a while at the age of 17. She later graduated from Middlesex University in Political Science , Philosophy and International Studies.
She worked for the local Labor Party for more than ten years and unsuccessfully applied for a seat in the European Parliament in the course of the 2009 European elections .
Onn is committed to the expansion of renewable energies .
In the course of the EU membership referendum in the UK in 2016 , Onn campaigned for the UK to remain in the European Union . However, she rejects a second referendum on the same issue. On October 18, 2019, Onn announced their intention to vote for Boris Johnson's deal with the EU.
Onn is considered to be critical of Jeremy Corbyn and stood behind Corbyn's challenger Owen Smith in his bid for Labor party leadership.
In the 2019 general election , Onn lost her seat to Lia Nici from the Conservative Party .
Onn lost 6726 votes compared to the last election , which corresponds to a percentage loss of 16.7 percent. She said afterwards that she already expected to lose her seat, but did not expect the loss to be so great.
