Melanospora is a genus of sac fungi that is part of its own family Ceratostomataceae .

features

The fruiting bodies are perithecia or, secondarily, celistothecia . The translucent peridium arises from the base of an ascogenic loop. The center is pseudoparenchymatic, paraphyses are absent. The asci are unitunicate. The ascospores are dark and have germ pores at both ends. The anamorphs are hyphomycetes .

The representatives are often mycoparasites, so they live parasitically on other fungi.

Systematics

In Eriksson 2006, the genus is still incorporated into the crust ball mushroom-like (Hypocreales). Melanospora , however, forms an independent branch outside of this order in several studies. They are also more closely related to the coronophorales than to the crust ball-type mushrooms . In 2007 the genre was put into its own order through the formal initial description. The correct name for the family is Ceratostomataceae, Melanosporaceae is not a valid name. According to more recent edits (as of 2017) on the class of Sordariomycetes, however, the order of Melanosporales is only regarded as a synonym for Coronophorales.
