The Melba Peninsula is a large and icy peninsula in Queen Marie Land, East Antarctica . It is opposite the Shackleton Ice Shelf between the Reid Glacier and the Bay of Winds .
It was discovered during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . This named the peninsula after the opera singer Nellie Melba (1861-1931), who had financially supported the expedition.
