Melbourne Ice is a semi-professional Australian ice hockey club from Melbourne , founded in 2002 and playing in the Australian Ice Hockey League .

history

Melbourne Ice was founded in 2002 and, as part of the league expansion, was added to the Australian Ice Hockey League , the country's top division, in the same year . While the team was always at the bottom of the table in 5th or 6th place in the first four seasons of its existence, Ice surprisingly won the VIP Cup in 2006 as the best team of the regular season. In the following playoffs they finished third, which was the best performance in the history of Melbourne Ice. In the following two seasons they moved into the playoff semi-finals.

In the 2010 season, the club achieved the greatest success in their club history when they won the Goodall Cup , the Australian championship title, for the first time with a 6: 4 final victory over the Adelaide Adrenaline . The team was able to repeat this success in the next year. In addition, she took first place in the regular season and received the H Newman Reid Trophy introduced in 2010 , which she also achieved in 2016 and 2017. The team also won the AIHL championship in 2012 and 2017.
