Melissa ( Greek Μέλισσες ( f. Pl. ), Bees ') is the name of a Cretan mountain town. He belongs to the local community Kavousi in the municipality of Ierapetra in Eastern Crete. The place had four residents in 2011.

location

The place is located 2.5 km east of Kavousi in the high valley Avgo ( Αβγό ) at 450 m altitude. The village of Panagia is located 250 meters north.

church

In Melisses there is a small Venetian church which is dedicated to Agia Irini . Archaeologist Harriet Boyd visited this church in 1900 and was impressed by the quality of the frescoes. In the small dome, God is depicted surrounded by angels. The evangelists are in the corners . The south wall shows the prophets in several rows and the north wall scenes from the Apocalypse . On the east wall there are pictures of Bethlehem and Jerusalem .
