Mell Lazarus

Mell Lazarus (born May 3, 1927 in Brooklyn , New York City , † May 24, 2016 in California ) was an American comic artist .

As a teenager, Lazarus began to draw. After high school, he became an assistant at Al Capp . From 1957 he published the humorous comic strip Miss Peach about a teacher and her school class. The strip ran for 45 years and was printed in 300 daily newspapers. In 1970 Momma followed - a comic strip about the elderly Sonja Hobbs and her three growing children Francis, Marylou and Thomas - which is published to this day. In Germany, Lazarus' simply drawn stories were published in the series Comics - World-Known Character Series (1,2,8) by Carlsen Verlag .
