Mellel is a word processing program for macOS . It is developed by the Tel Aviv , Israel- based software company RedleX . Mellel offers functions to create and edit scientific texts. Including features for automatic numbering, tables of contents, footnotes and endnotes , cross references, headers and footers, columns, tables, bibliographies (with support for the reference management programs Bookends and Sente), lists and document outlines . The manufacturer has also announced support for indices and marginalia for future versions .
Mellel offers an import and export function for RTF files. In addition, the import / export function of the operating system can be used for Word files . However, data exchange via RTF is recommended.
Up to version 2.1 Mellel saved its files in the proprietary Mellel format * .mell, templates as * .mtem; from version 2.1 Mellel uses a proprietary format based on XML .
Language support
Mellel offers extensive support for various languages and writing systems. For example, it is very easy to switch from left-right writing to right-left writing within a document. Unicode is fully supported as an input method. Since Mellel is largely independent of Mac OS X when it comes to font support , on the one hand there is support for OpenType fonts that goes beyond the operating system , on the other hand there is currently no support for Apple Advanced Typography , as well as numerous Asian writing systems (including Sanskrit , Hindi , Tibetan , Thai ). The automatic hyphenation for individual languages in Mellel can be adapted to individual needs using the MellelHyphenationLab program.
System requirements
A Macintosh computer with at least macOS version 10.5 is required to use Mellel version 2.9, which was released on September 22, 2011 .
