Mellinus is a genus of digger wasps (Spheciformes) from the Crabronidae family. It was previouslyassigned tothe subfamily Bembicinae , but has recently been placed in the subfamily Mellininae , where it is the only species of the tribe Mellinini. There are only three known species from the Palearctic , whereby Mellinus alpinus is probably only a darker mountain variant of Mellinus arvensis . All species of the genus are also common in Europe.
features
Characteristic for the group is the slender, stem-like elongated first abdomen segment and the yellow to whitish spots and bands on the shiny and otherwise black body.
