Mels Crouwel

Mels Crouwel (* 1953 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch architect .

Mels Crouwel graduated in 1978 from Delft University of Technology as a civil engineer. In 1979 he founded Benthem Crouwel Architects in Amsterdam with Jan Benthem .

From 2004 to 2008 Mels Crouwel was the main government architect (Dutch: Rijksbouwmeester ) of the Netherlands . He is a member of the “Bond van Nederlandse Architecten” ( Association of Dutch Architects ) and an honorary member of the Association of German Architects .

From 1985 to 1987 he was on the Art Council of Amsterdam, from 1987 to 1991 in the Council of Art, from 1996 to 2004 he taught at the Dutch Architecture Institute (NAI) and from 1998 to 2005 at the “Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst” (literally: Amsterdamer Fund for Art ).

Mels Crouwel is the son of the Dutch graphic artist Willem Hendrik Crouwel .
