Melschen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melschen (also Miltschen ) was a desolate settlement in the area of today's city of Leipzig at the end of the Middle Ages .

location

The area of Melschen was north of the center of the former municipality of Stötteritz in the direction of the municipality of Mölkau , both of which are now districts of Leipzig. An area between the Papiermühlstrasse and Oststrasse is assumed, which today belongs to the Stötteritzer Flur.

history

Melschen, like its neighboring town of Stötteritz, emerged as a Rundling with only a few farms in the course of the Old Sorbian conquest around the 7th century . For 1404 eleven possessed men with nine and a half hooves are given.

The oldest mention was made in 1335 as Mylschene, belonging to the Leipzig office. In 1404, astonishingly, the lordship was exercised by the church of St. Peter zu Freiberg , but in 1492 by the Thomaskloster in Leipzig. With the Reformation in 1543 Melschen or the Melscher Flur went to the council of the city of Leipzig.

Because at that time the actual village of Melschen no longer existed. Already in 1517 there is only talk of the "Melscher Marck". In the neighboring Stötteritz, a manor was built at the beginning of the 16th century that sought to enlarge its field. A manor settlement with rows of houses arose from the farming village . This so-called peasant laying should also have taken place in Melschen, only without creating cottages in the village, but expediently near the estate. With the merger of Melscher and Stötteritzer Flur in the 16th century, the place name also disappeared. Already in 1551 it was called "Stodteritzermargk".

For the entire time of its existence, Melschen was church- bound to Baalsdorf , about four kilometers away , where a wooden church was replaced by a solid structure as early as the 13th century.

Melscher Straße in Stötteritz has been a reminder of the former Melschen since 1905, but not directly at the historical site.
