Mendocino Range

Mendocino Range (also Mendocino Mountains ) is an unofficial name for part of the California Coast Mountains in northern California . It lies in a north-south direction between the Pacific coast and the valley of the Eel River in the north and the Russian River in the south. The two river valleys separate the Mendocino Range from the parallel Mayacamas Mountains . The place Mendocino lies at the foot of the mountains.

The Mendocino Range begins in southern Humboldt County and includes Bear Mountain, Rainbow Ridge and Grasshopper Peak, the highest mountain in Humboldt Redwoods State Park . The area is characterized by old trees, including coastal redwoods , Douglas fir and coastal fir .

The Mendocino Range is also home to various animal species such as elk , American black bears , various types of fish such as king salmon and rainbow trout , as well as various species of birds, including the Marmelalk and bald eagle .
