The Eichhall natural forest reserve is a nature reserve with a population of around 400-year-old oaks and is located in the Heisterblock in the non-parish Rohrbrunner Forst in the district of Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia . The nature reserve is located west of the Geiersberg in the Spessart and covers an area of around 72 hectares . In the area, the highest average annual precipitation of the Spessart is measured at 1,100 millimeters per year . The forest was probably formed as a result of slash and burn by refugees during the Thirty Years' War as an initially pure oak forest; beeches were only brought in about 200 years ago . The forest was used for the production of construction and veneer wood until 2002 , but since then the forest has been left to its own devices and, with an area of 66.8 ha, is also protected as a natural forest reserve .

Together with the Rohrberg nature reserve approx. 2 km away , the Eichhall natural forest reserve forms an important focus of the Heisterblock for the conservation of rare species.

The collar snapper occurs in the nature reserve . He benefits from the old stock of trees in which there are woodpecker holes that he can use for breeding. The woodpecker's caves are also used by bats and a swift colony . In Eichhall, 200 deadwood beetle species have been recorded, 80 of which are threatened with extinction, such as the hermit .
