Menelaus is an impact crater on the front of the moon on the northern edge of the Montes Haemus , on the edge of the Mare Serenitatis , west of the Pliny crater . The crater floor is uneven and the crater rim is somewhat irregular.

To the north of Menelaus, on the level of the Mare Serenitatis, is the ridge system of the Rimae Menelaus .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the mathematician and astronomer Menelaus .
