The menhir in regional sagas

There are two legends about the menhir : On the one hand, a dog with fiery eyes is said to run around there at night , accompanying the passerby to the village. On the other hand, a gray man is supposed to appear there at witching hour, who sits on his back or spells them down. When he took up the menhir in 2005, Johannes Groht found that the legends are still well known to the local residents. He was told that ghosts appeared here at night and the menhir would protect the place. He also discovered that someone had filled the holes and cracks on the surface of the stone with glass beads and lumps of gold.
