The menhir of Feldengel (also known as Der Lange Stein ) is a menhir in Feldengel , a district of Großenehrich in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

location

The stone is located about 650 m north of Feldengel and 100 m west of the road leading to Holzengel directly on a dirt road. The terrain slopes slightly to the south at this point.

description

The menhir is made of tufa . It has a height of 211 cm, a width of 80 cm and a depth of 16 cm. It is plate-shaped and rounded at the top. In the middle lower area of the southern broadside it has a hole the size of a fist. There are other, smaller flakes around this.

The menhir in regional sagas

There are several legends about the stone: It is said to have marked the border between the principalities of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . It should also be a holy stone. Furthermore, an officer is said to be buried under him. Britta Schulze-Thulin also thinks it is possible that he originally carried the name "Feldengel" and thus gave the place its name.
