The Kirberg menhir is a prehistoric menhir in Kirberg , a district of Hünstelden in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse . It was discovered in 1945 and moved to the Kirberg cemetery, where it is now used as a war memorial for those who died in World War II .
location
The stone was discovered 2.5 km south of Kirberg at the confluence of two streams and was initially not recognized as a menhir. Today he is in the local cemetery in front of the chapel. The Dauborn menhir is 1.1 km to the northeast .
description
The menhir consists of quartzitic sandstone , the exact origin of which is unknown. It is barrel-shaped and has a rounded tip. The stone has a height of 180 cm, a width of 120 cm and a thickness of 90 cm.
