People made of iron on the Hattingen city wall

The Iron People is an approximately 2.40 m high multi-part iron sculpture by the Polish sculptor Zbigniew Frączkiewicz from 1996 .

For the 600th anniversary of the city of Hattingen , a circle of 15 iron men was set up as a "temporary memorial" in 1996 in cooperation with the Kunstverein Hattingen eV on the site of the former Henrichshütte .

Three of these statues, each weighing 600 kg and costing DM 20,000, could be acquired for Hattingen. Volksbank Hattingen eG took over the costs of the first Eisenmann , the second was paid for with donations from Hattingen citizens and the third was financed by the Schack construction company .

The public display of the figures in front of the Bruchtorturm near the bus station, reminiscent of the struggle for the preservation of the steel site , aroused concerns in the Hattingen Foreigners Advisory Council because of their nudity and eroticism , but not in the City Culture Committee. The men often wore underpants.

Further specimens of the original 15 iron people are known by other names. Sun is located in Mainz of the anti-human , the Polish Gorzow Wielkopolski the Swinster and in Frankfurt the Bulbul man . There is also an iron man in front of the old town hall in Hattingen , but it is much smaller and less detailed.
