Human rights in Lithuania

The human rights situation in Lithuania (rights and freedoms of citizens) of the Republic of Lithuania are in the Constitution of Lithuania set, 1992. Lithuania has signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and has also ratified a number of other human rights conventions such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights , the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights . These international agreements take precedence over national legislation.

Homosexuality wasn't legalized until 1993. Homosexuality is equated with heterosexuality in the age of consent and the age of consent was adjusted to 14 years in 2004. At Baltic Pride there are counter-demonstrations in which well-known politicians take part every year.
