Mercedes Marcó del Pont (born August 28, 1957 ) is an Argentine economist , politician , bank manager and tax officer.

Career

Marcó del Pont studied economics at the Universidad de Buenos Aires , where she graduated in 1982. She worked briefly for the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales and as a research assistant at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, before continuing her studies at Yale University . After completing her master's degree in 1987, she returned to Argentina, where she worked for the think tank Fundación de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (FIDE). From 1989 she worked in the Argentine Ministry of Economic Affairs in the petrochemical industry, and in 1991 she returned to FIDE as director. Between 1999 and 2002 she was a lecturer at the Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora . In 2000/01, she belonged to Grupo Fénix , a group of prominent Argentine economists that formed during the recession in Argentina, who developed the Plan Fénix, a strategy for the reconstruction of the Argentine economy with a view to growth in connection with social justice.

In 2002 Marcó del Pont worked briefly in the Ministry of Production under José de Mendiguren . In 2005 she was elected to the Cámara de Diputados de la Nación Argentina as a candidate for the party alliance Frente para la Victoria . In February 2008 she was appointed head of the state-owned Banco de la Nación Argentina , and subsequently resigned from her parliamentary mandate. On February 4, 2010, after the resignation of Martin Redrados , she moved to the head of the Argentine Central Bank . In November 2013 she was replaced by Juan Carlos Fabrega as part of a restructuring in the government and top administration . Afterwards she worked for FIDE again. In December 2019, she appointed President Alberto Ángel Fernández as head of the tax authority Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos .
