Merethe Lindstrøm (born May 26, 1963 in Bergen , Norway ) is a Norwegian writer and former rock singer.

Life

Merethe Lindstrøm grew up in Hammerfest , Bergen, Stord , Aurskog-Høland and Oslo . She started writing at the age of 17. She made her debut as a writer in 1983 with the publication of the collection of short stories Sexorcisten og andre fortellinger .

For her 2011 novel, Dager i stillhetens history (Translation of title: "Day in the history of silence") Lindstrøm was both the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature and the Nordic Council's Literature Prize awarded. Marta Eidsvåg won the Harvill Secker's Young Translators' Prize 2016 with the translation of the eponymous story Svømme under vann (= swimming under water ) from the eponymous volume of stories (1994) into English . Although only days in the history of the silence , north and from the winter archives are available licensed in more than two foreign language editions, it is therefore visibly valued by the specialist public.

In the time before and partly parallel to her first publications as a writer, Lindstrøm was active as a singer in various rock bands in Oslo and Berlin .
