Merle Fainsod

Merle Fainsod (born May 2, 1907 in McKees Rocks , Pennsylvania , † February 11, 1972 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American political scientist . Most famous is his work on public administration and the Soviet Union . His books “Smolensk under Soviet Rule”, based on documents captured by the German invaders during World War II, and “How Russia is Ruled” (also known as “How the Soviet Union is Governed”) helped with this Establishment of the US-American Soviet Union studies and made him a recognized expert for the Soviet Union in the USA.

In 1950 Fainsod was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . Since 1961 he was a member of the American Philosophical Society .

A well-known student of Fainsod was the political scientist and political advisor Zbigniew Brzeziński .
