The Merlin- class was a class of paddle steamers in the Royal Navy . The three Merlin- class wooden steamboats with side paddle wheels were based on a design by William Symonds.

All ships of the class had a side-lever steam engine from Fawcett with 312 hp . The piston was 64 inches in diameter and 6 feet of stroke . The water tube boiler delivered 10 bar steam. The paddle wheels were 24 feet in diameter and reached 19 revolutions per minute.
