Merope (daughter of Helios)
Merope ( Greek Μερόπη ) (German: "the woman with the face turned away") is in Greek mythology one of the Heliads , daughter of Helios and Klymene and sister of Phaethon .
The name Merope was also occasionally used for Klymene Merops. In this case she is Merops' wife and Phaeton is her son.
The name could refer to the course of the sun on the ecliptic , but also to the solstices (heliotropium). He was associated by poets with the city of Merope in Ethiopia, whose inhabitants, according to legend, were blackened by Phaeton's awkward journey in the sun chariot.
