Mesocyclops is a genus of tropical copepods thatoccur in standing poolsand thatfeed on mosquito larvae , among other things. This food source makes them a suitable means of biological mosquito control. Since mosquitoesactas carriers of infectious diseasesin many cases, such approaches are relevant in health care, especially in the tropics. As an experiment, mesocyclops was therefore z. B. in Vietnam with the help of the population in ponds, whereupon, according to astudy publishedin The Lancet, the number of dengue fever cases fell in the areas concerned and the disease vector Aedes aegypti was eradicated in the villages where the control with mesocyclops was carried out. Mesocyclops termocyclopoides only attacks mosquito larvae in the early stages of development, so colonizing the breeding grounds with copepods before the mosquitoes lay eggs is the most effective way of controlling them. There are numerous other works on this topic, see for example .
