Meta Torvalds

Elin Margareta (Meta) Torvalds (born January 14, 1922 in Korsholm , † February 10, 2012 in Turku ) was a Finnish-Swedish journalist and Finland's first female editor-in-chief .

Torvalds worked as an editor from 1946 to 1948 for the newspaper Österbottningen and from 1948 for Åbo Underrättelser , where she was editor-in-chief from 1971 to 1977. In 1975 she received the Topeliuspriset , a prize for Swedish journalism in Finland. In 1983 she was awarded the Kyrkans informationspris (Church Award) and in 1985 the Åbolands Kulturpris . She received an honorary doctorate from Åbo Akademi in 2002. Since 1948 she was married to Ole Torvalds .
