The Metaplastes species are similar to the species of the genera Barbitistes and Ancistrura . In both males and females, the pronotum is slightly extended backwards. In the metazona the pronotum is slightly increased in males and not increased in females. There is a sulcus slightly behind the middle . The genus is micropter . At the apex, the subgenital plate of the males is equipped with thorns or other modifications. In females, lobular or platelet-shaped appendages are present on both sides of the subgenital plate above the lamella and behind the gonangulum . Gap-shaped depressions at the base of the ovipositors may or may not be present.
