Metin Altıok
Metin Altıok (born March 14, 1941 in Bergama / İzmir , † July 9, 1993 in Sivas ) was a Turkish poet of the Alevi faith.
Life
Metin Altıok attended school until he graduated from high school in Kayseri . He studied philosophy in Ankara . After completing his studies, he worked as a civil servant and was then transferred to school as a teacher.
He taught in various cities in Anatolia , including for several years at an Imam Hatip school in Bingöl .
In 1976 he published his first volume of poetry Gezgin ("Umherziehend"); Yerleşik yabancı ("The Resident Stranger") appeared in 1978 . Another eight volumes followed by 1992. Metin Altıok has received several literary prizes for his work. In addition to his literary work, he drew with pen and charcoal.
He fell victim to the Sivas arson attack on July 2, 1993 . Fazıl Say composed the Requiem for Metin Altıok (2003) in his memory .
