Metoděj Prajka (born July 5, 1898 in Lanžhot (German: Landshut in Moravia ); † February 7, 1962 there ) was a Czech composer , clarinetist and tenor horn player.

Life

Due to the early death of his mother, Metodej Prajka had to move around as a musician with his father in order to earn money for the family. Making music in his father's chapel was his only musical training. He then received musical training in the military. Metodej Prajka has composed throughout his life and written numerous marches, polkas and waltzes in the Moravian style.

Prajka shaped Moravian brass music like few others ("Everyone plays Prajka, but nobody knows who he was"). Even in the 21st century he is one of the most popular and still most frequently performed composers with numerous bands that play Moravian brass music (e.g. Mistříňanka ). The compositions by Prajka, which are characterized by a special impetus, the "Moravian swing" (especially with the polkas), can also be played by ambitious amateur orchestras. Prajkas Länders are usually laid out as a soloist and sometimes have a meditative-relaxing character.
