Metropolitan School Frankfurt

The Metropolitan School Frankfurt is an international school in Frankfurt am Main . It is a state-approved substitute school including kindergarten for children from 3 to 18 years of age. It offers the International Baccalaureate (International Abitur) as a school leaving certificate .

The school campus with open space, parents' car park and a 3,600 square meter school building is located on Eschborner Landstrasse in Frankfurt-Rödelheim , about six kilometers from the city center. The founder of the school is the former investment banker Peter Ferres, who, after studying to be a teacher, is now responsible for the commercial management (Managing Director) and the school administration function. The Metropolitan School is run as a non-profit GmbH (gGmbH).

kindergarten

A kindergarten is attached to the Metropolitan School Frankfurt. Like the lessons, supervision takes place bilingually by means of immersion . The municipal kindergarten receives subsidies from the city of Frankfurt. For children who are registered in Frankfurt, the city of Frankfurt pays the fees.

Metropolitan School Frankfurt Primary School, Middle School, High School

The Metropolitan School Frankfurt is a so-called IB World School, which is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization , the international "Primary Years Program" for children from 3 to 11 years (Kindergarten up to and including 5th grade) and the IB DP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programs) in grades 11 and 12. From grades 6 to 10 the Metropolitan School Frankfurt offers the "Cambridge International" curriculum, which distinguishes the school as a "Cambridge Examinations Center". In the 10th grade, the IGCSE exams are taken, which correspond to a German secondary school leaving certificate . The IB DP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program) is taught in the 11th and 12th grades; school-leaving qualifications after the 12th grade are the IB Diploma (international Abitur), which can be converted into a German Abitur if the relevant subjects are chosen. In addition to the IB diploma, students also receive the American high school diploma .

The main language of instruction in all subjects - with the exception of German - is English. The native speaking teachers come from Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. German teachers give one hour of German lessons per day. The school is aimed at international and German families. The school founder describes this concept as international education with German roots .

Each class is taught by specialists and teachers with appropriate pedagogical training for the respective age group. In the first grades, a second teacher is also active in the classroom. Specialists with additional training for special encouragement and support for students, as well as an in-house psychologist, support the international teachers in their work.

Since opening in August 2007, the school has grown from 70 to 620 students from 55 countries. The maximum capacity of approx. 650 students is almost reached. Because the Metropolitan School is recognized as a "substitute school", the school receives state subsidies that flow directly into the school and reduce parental fees. Recognition as a substitute school means that German pupils can attend the international school without having to provide evidence to the school authorities.
