Sta. Christiana is the abbreviation for the Catholic women's order, sisters of the childhood of Jesus and Mary under the protection of St. Christiana.

Sister order

Anne and Alexis de Méjanès founded a community in the French village of Argancy near Metz in 1789 that looked after the poor. The community follows the spirituality of the École française de spiritualité , a spiritual movement that was widespread in Lorraine at the time . The new bishop of Metz (first name last name missing) is impressed by the community in Argancy and on April 20, 1807 gives the group the status of a religious community, with the tasks of education and nursing . The patron saint of the Order of Women was St. Christiana, St. Nino . The new community of apostolic life, called “Sisters of the Childhood of Jesus and Mary under the protection of St. Christiana”, belongs to the Ignatian religious group . They are represented in the following countries: France , Austria , Hungary , USA , Canada , Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

schools

France

Schools in France were established in several locations from 1808. They still bear the name of the founding order, but have been passed on to other sponsors.

Austria

The sisters came to Austria in August 1854 at the invitation of the Count von Chambord , who resided in Frohsdorf Castle , who ran a school for the children of the French colony gathered around him in Frohsdorf and for the girls of the village under the direction of the bilingual sisters from Sta. Christiana wanted to found. In Austria, schools and boarding schools for girls were founded in three locations from 1854. In the 1980s, the boarding schools were closed and converted into day schools and boys were accepted.

Institute Sta. Christiana

The increasing number of pupils on the one hand and the decrease in the number of sisters on the other brought more and more lay people to the teaching body. At first they took on more and more direct educational and teaching tasks, then also the management of schools and boarding schools and economic management. The school association “Institut Sta. In 1987 Christiana ”took over the leadership of the schools and day-care centers in Frohsdorf, Vienna-Rodaun and Wiener Neustadt from the Order. For this purpose, the order gave him the properties with the buildings in the form of a portfolio contract. At the three locations, 2000 pupils are taught by 300 teachers.

Principles

"Let the merciful love of God be felt and experienced!"

“Love your students! Then you will find a thousand ways of making good students of them. When you have won their heart, you can do anything you want with them. /… /. It is a good sign when a teacher praises her children, and when the children in turn praise their teacher. With this mutual affection everything goes well. "

“The Sta. Christiana schools are living spaces in which humanity is experienced and lived. We create encounters in which God's merciful love can be felt and experienced. In our Christian-humane educational institutions, people of all age groups can develop and develop spiritually, mentally and physically according to their individual talents and abilities. "
