Mevis & Van Deursen

Mevis & Van Deursen is a Dutch graphic design studio based in Amsterdam .

The office was founded in 1987 by Armand Mevis and Linda van Deursen. Linda van Deursen (* 1961 in Aardenburg) studied from 1981 to 1982 at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg , then from 1982 to 1986 with a BA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam . Armand Mevis, (* 1963 in Oirsbeek ) studied from 1981 to 1982 at the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost in Breda and completed his studies in 1986 with a BA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. The two met there during their studies.

The duo are considered to be the most imaginative and renowned team of graphic designers in the Netherlands. Mevis & Van Deursen mainly work for the cultural sector. You have designed numerous books for artists such as Gabriel Orozco and Rineke Dijkstra . They were from 2003 to 2006 for the visual design of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam the couturier and the Viktor & Rolf in the art magazine Metropolis M responsible. Her work is exhibited internationally in museums and educational institutions.

Mevis teaches typography at Werkplaats in Arnhem ; Van Deursen is visiting professor at the School of Art at Yale University, New Haven (USA) and was head of the graphic design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie until 2015 . She is a juror in the competition “The Most Beautiful Swiss Books”.

In 2009 Mevis & Van Deursen were one of three winners of the annual Amsterdam Prize for Art , which is endowed with 35,000 euros. 2012 designed the new logo of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. They had previously designed numerous books for the museum.
