Amsterdam Prize for Art

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Today's Amsterdam Prize for Art (Dutch: Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst , initially also: De Amsterdamprijs voor de kunsten ) is a Dutch art prize that - if you include its various previous prizes - has been awarded since 1946. Today the prize is awarded to three artists or organizations that play an unmistakable role in the development of art in the city of Amsterdam . For example, musicians, theater ensembles and advertising designers have been among the award winners in recent years.

The prize is awarded by the Amsterdamer Fonds für die Kunst (AFK; Dutch: Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst). Eighteen former awards known under other names are included in the award.

The jury consists of at least five people selected by the AFK who can be members for a maximum of two years. Since 2007, the award ceremony has taken place on the eve of the new cultural season in August. The winners will receive a special bowl from the city of Amsterdam and EUR 35,000 each.
