Multatuli Prize

The Multatuli Prize (Dutch: Multatuliprijs ) was a Dutch literary prize that was awarded from 1972 to 2002 by the Amsterdam Art Fund. The award was launched back in 1946 to promote the creative arts. From 1946 to 1971 the Multatuli Prize was named Prosa Prize of the City of Amsterdam (Dutch: Prozaprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam ). After 2002 the prize was merged with the Amsterdam Prize for Art .

Overview of the three Amsterdam literary prizes

After the Second World War, three literary prizes were established in Amsterdam:

  • Poëzieprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Poetry Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1945 to 1971; from 1972 to 2002 Herman Gorterprijs , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst
  • Essayprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Essay Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1947 to 1971; from 1972 to 2002 Busken Huetprijs , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst
  • Prozaprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Prose Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1946 to 1971; from 1972 to 2002 Multatulipreis , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst

Since 2003, all three literary prizes have been included in the Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst along with other art prizes .
