K. Schippers , pseudonym of Gerard Stierter (born November 6, 1936 in Amsterdam ; † August 12, 2021 there ), was a Dutch writer, poet, essayist and art critic.

biography

K. Schippers attended secondary school ( Hogereburgerschool , HBS) in Amsterdam, where he got to know the works of Nescio , Willem Elsschot , Albert Alberts and Simon Carmiggelt . In 1956 he visited an exhibition about Kurt Schwitters in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and has been fascinated by the art of Dadaism ever since . In 1958, together with Gerard Bron , Henk Marsman (Bernlef) and Frits Jacobsen, he founded the "Dadaist" magazine Barbarber (BBB), which was to exist until 1971. He made his living as a copywriter in the 1960s . In the 1970s he made a number of films with Kees Hin. He also worked for television at the time. In 1975 he became editor of Hollands Diep magazine .

As a poet, Schippers made his debut in 1963 with the De waarheid collection as De koe . He then published other volumes of poetry. K. Schippers introduced the readymade as a form of poetry into Dutch literature. In 1971 Schippers made his debut as a novelist with Een avond in Amsterdam . He has been most productive as an essayist, documentary writer, interviewer, and art critic .

Schippers won several literary prizes, including the Poetry Prize of the City of Amsterdam (1966), the Multatuli Prize (1982), the Greshoff Prize and Pierre Bayle Prize, and the PC Hooft Prize (1996). He received the Zilveren pen twice for his children's books . In 2006 he won the prestigious Libris Literature Prize for his novel Waar was je nou (Where have you been now). Schippers died in August 2021 at the age of 84.
