Herman Gorter Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herman Gorter Prize (Dutch: Herman Gorterprijs ) was a Dutch poetry prize that was awarded from 1972 to 2002 for a poem or collection of poems. It was awarded every two years until 1988, then annually.

The prize arose from the Poëzieprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam , which had been awarded since 1945. The prize was awarded by the Amsterdamer Fonds für die Kunst (Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, AFK). At the beginning of 2003, the Herman Groter Prize - like other Amsterdam literature and art prizes - was merged into the newly formed Amsterdam Prize for Art ( Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst ).

Overview of the three Amsterdam literary prizes

After the Second World War, three literary prizes were established in Amsterdam:

  • Poëzieprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Poetry Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1945 to 1971; from 1972-2002 Herman Gorterprijs , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst
  • Essayprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Essay Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1947 to 1971; from 1972-2002 Busken Huetprijs , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst
  • Prozaprijs van de gemeente Amsterdam (Prose Prize of the City of Amsterdam) - 1946 to 1971; from 1972-2002 Multatuli Prize , then Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst

Since 2003, all three literary prizes have been included in the Amsterdamprijs voor de kunst along with other art prizes .
