Kees Ouwens

Cornelis Johannes "Kees" Ouwens (born June 27, 1944 in Zeist , † August 24, 2004 in Heemstede ) was a Dutch poet and novelist .

Although Kees Ouwens also wrote prose, he gained prominence in Dutch literature as an experimental poet. He made his debut in 1968 with the volume of poetry "Arcadia" and the related novel "De strategie".

In 2002, all of the poems published up to that point were published in “Alle gedichten tot dusver”. A year later the Meulenhoff publishing house published his prose in “Alle romans tot dusver”. In 2005, Meulenhoff published posthumously, but still edited by Kees Owens himself, the collection of poems "Ben jij het, ik?"

Kees Ouwens has received numerous literary prizes. He lived in Utrecht. After a long illness he died in Heemstede in August 2004.

Despite its importance in the Netherlands, his work has not yet been translated into German.
