Ernesto Ceirano
Ernesto Ceirano (born September 9, 1873 in Cuneo , † February 23, 1953 in Turin ) was an Italian racing car driver and the youngest brother of the Ceirano car pioneer brothers .
Career
He gained his first knowledge and skills as an automotive mechanic like his brothers Giovanni and Matteo Ceirano in the eldest brother Giovanni Battista founded in Turin Ceirano Giovanni Battista & C. , which in 1899 before being taken over by Fiat the 3.5 hp strong precursor of the first Fiat - Cars produced.
Ernesto Ceirano, who had a good knowledge of engine design, made a name for himself above all as an automobile racing driver. As early as 1908 he achieved third place in the legendary Targa Florio with a four-cylinder SPA 28/40 HP (7785 cm³ ) behind Vincenzo Trucco ( Isotta Fraschini ) and Vincenzo Lancia (Fiat) . In 1911 and 1914 he won the Società Ceirano Automobili Torino (SCAT), founded by his brother Giovanni and his son Giovanni (called "Ernesto") in 1906, the Targa Florio with a SCAT 22/32 HP (4398 cm³) . Ceirano was also successful in 1914 in the Parma – Poggio di Berceto hill climb on SCAT.
It was probably also he who, as Capo del montaggio (Production Manager ) at SCAT, contributed to the fact that their vehicles achieved great success in motorsport, especially in 1921 and 1922 . Since his nephew Giovanni junior was also nicknamed "Ernesto", the sources make different statements in this regard.
