Giovanni Ceirano

Giovanni Ceirano (* 1865 in Cuneo ; † March 30, 1948 in La Cassa ) was an Italian automobile manufacturer and founder of various local automobile companies.

biography

As the second son of Giovanni Battista , Matteo and Ernesto of the Ceirano family, he first learned and worked in the Turin bicycle and later automobile workshop of his brother Giovanni Battista, which was known as Ceirano Giovanni Battista & C. from 1898 until it was taken over by Fiat the following year and designed and manufactured the prototype of the first Fiat car . Like the entire workforce, Giovanni also moved to Fiat. In 1889 he became the father of Giovanni, called "Ernesto" , who later became his business partner.

After his younger brother Matteo left Fratelli Ceirano & C. , which had only been founded in 1901 together with his eldest brother Giovanni Battista, in 1903 , Giovanni became a partner there in 1904, which is why the company that later became the Società Torinese Automobili Rapid (STAR) became GG Fratelli Ceirano & C. was renamed. Shortly afterwards, like Matteo, he left the company and founded his own Ceirano Giovanni Junior & C. , which was called Fabbrica Junior Torinese Automobili from 1905 . The company, also known as La Junior, produced the single-cylinder Ceirano 9 1/2 HP , the two-cylinder Ceirano 12/14 HP and the Ceirano 16/20 HP with a four-cylinder engine. On July 26, 1906, together with his son "Ernesto", he founded the Turin Società Ceirano Automobili Torino (SCAT) , which has become known primarily for its racing . In 1918 the company founder left SCAT to found the rival company Ceirano Giovanni Fabbrica Automobili SA . In the end, Giovanni acquired the majority of shares in SCAT and merged the two automobile companies, which sealed the end of vehicles with the Ceirano radiator emblem on March 30, 1925 . After that, these were only manufactured under the name SCAT.

In 1945 Giovanni retired from the automobile business and died three years later.
