Willem Barnard
Wilhelmus Barnard also Willem Barnard , (born August 15, 1920 in Rotterdam , † November 21, 2010 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch Reformed pastor and songwriter . He also published under the pseudonym Guillaume van der Graft .
Life
After studying Dutch literature and Protestant theology at the Universities of Leiden and Utrecht , Barnard worked as a pastor in Hardenberg (Overijssel) , Nijmegen , Amsterdam , Rozendaal and Velp . In 1975 he took early retirement due to illness.
Barnard was active in various literary circles since the Second World War , including from 1954 to 1960 as editor of the magazine Wending . The translation of his song Met de boom des levens by Jürgen Henkys 1975, which is printed in the Evangelical Hymnbook under number 97, is well known in Germany. He has won many prizes for his work and is the author of numerous monographs. He also suggested the new translation and rhyming of the Psalms .
The University of Utrecht awarded Barnard an honorary doctorate in 1966 .
