Mevlut Uysal
Mevlüt Uysal (born in Alanya in 1966 ) is a Turkish politician and lawyer . He was mayor of the city of Istanbul from 2017 to 2019 .
After completing elementary and middle school in Alanya, he studied law at Istanbul University and graduated in 1988.
Uysal worked as a freelance lawyer and was involved in politics. He was a co-founder of the district organization of Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) in Küçükçekmece , Istanbul province. After the merger of Bahçeşehir and Başakşehir to form the Başakşehir district, he was elected district mayor of Başakşehir in the 2009 local elections in Turkey on March 29 . He was re-elected in the 2014 local elections in Turkey .
He was nominated as Mayor of Istanbul by the AKP after Mayor Kadir Topbaş resigned from office on September 22, 2017. Uysal was elected as the new mayor in the third round of the Istanbul Metropolitan Area Council on September 28, 2017.
Uysal is married and has four children.
