Henman Meyer-Niessen coat of arms

Messrs Meyer-Niessen (also Meyer von Weiler or Maiger von Wiler ) were a Freiburg noble family from Weiler in the municipality of Stegen near Freiburg im Breisgau .

origin

The first mention of the Meyer-Niessen family goes back to a document dated August 6, 1175. Among other nobles, a Lambertus villicus de Vilario appears in it as a witness to a donation from the Lords of Hasenburg to the St. Ursitz monastery. To what extent this Lambertus with the Villicus dct mentioned in 1280 . Niesse or the C. villicus de Wiler mentioned in 1284 or the Meiger Niesse who appeared in 1286 in the Freiburg im Breisgau council must remain open . Hefele is clearly in favor of it and names various seal comparisons.

According to Maurer, Messrs. Meyer-Niessen are said to have emerged from the Freiburg merchant class.

Julius Kindler von Knobloch considers Messrs. Meyer-Niessen to be members of the tribal and coats of arms of Messrs. Gib , an old noble family from Freiburg. Johann Daniel Schöpflin considers Messrs. Meyer von Weiler (Meyer-Niessen) and Messrs. Meyer von Hueningen as two lines of the same sex, which is also supported by the similarity of the two coats of arms.

history

Heinrich Meyer-Niessen is named as a council member in 1324, 1330, 1332, 1337. In 1343 he made an award to the monastery of St. Peter in 1343 and in 1344 bought goods in Ebnet. He was married to Catharina von Munzingen. Heinrich Meyer-Niessen died in 1345. He and his wife were commemorated on December 23rd in the Holy Spirit Hospital in Freiburg. Of their daughters, Linsa, Katarina, Agnes and Elsa were 1340 nuns in the Günterstal Monastery , Anna (mentioned in 1345) was the wife of Giving in 1357 , called Blageben, who died in 1368. Anna followed him on March 17, 1391.

Mayer Berthold von Wiler, a citizen of Neuchâtel, sold goods in Krotzingen to the Wilhelmites in Freiburg in 1320. The Necrologium der Johanniter in Neuchâtel mentions under March 23: “† Bertholdus de Wiler, Anna, uxor sua, Burcardus et Johannes, filii, Mehtildis, filia eorum, uxor Petri Meiger, H. an dem Stalten, uxor sua. Brother Johannes Meyer, laboriosus ac diligens scriba, qui circa annum 1341 antiquum urbarium diligenter scripsit ”. Berthold is named as Siechmeister zu Thennenbach in 1348. According to the necrologium of this monastery, he died on April 24th.

A dispute between some council members and the city of Freiburg led in 1356 to the exclusion of some sexes, including the Meyer-Niessen, from the Freiburg council. This affected u. a .: “the old Meygerniesse sin süne, and irü kint; Hug Trosche; Hesse mint master; Egenolf Kücheli; and generally everyone who was bi there, one spoke Löcheler and all irü children. "

The nobleman Johannes Meyer-Niessen was married to Agnes. The children of the marriage were Hennin († 1387 possibly identical to the noble servant who died on March 20, 1387), Guta († before 1387), Tyanne (nun in Günterstal; † before 1387), Gottfried (parish priest in Freiburg), Nesa (married to Henni Küchlin) and Hans or Hanmann. The nobleman Johans Meigererniesse, Henni Meigerniesse der iunger and Heinrich Meigernieß were among the founding members of the Freiburg noble society " von dem Stern ", founded in 1370 . On October 15, 1387, Johannes gave goods and interest income to the Günterstal monastery in the valley of Kirchzarten for the salvation of himself and his family. It appears that he survived a large number of his children.

Heinrich Meyer, referred to as a nobleman in 1349 and a knight in 1368, was probably the brother of the aforementioned Johannes. He was married to Claranna, the daughter of the nobleman Berhold von Neuenfels. It seems that this marriage had a daughter named Claranna, who was married to Burkard von Keppenbach, as well as Hermann, who lived in 1388 as a friar in the Johanniter-Komtur in Freiburg, later in Neuchâtel, then in Heitersheim, where he was governor on 10 March, 1405 died.

A Henmann Meyer-Niessen, a standard-bearer of Otto von Hachberg, and a Walter Mayer, who is mentioned by Heinrich Schreiber as Mayer von Weiler, but otherwise as Walter Mayer von Hüningen, appear in the lists of those killed in the Battle of Sempach . How these are to be classified in the ancestral line of Messrs. Meyer is not clear.

The son of Johannes Meyer-Niessen, Hans or Hanmann, is referred to as a nobleman in 1387. He is named mayor in 1389 and 1419 and named as a councilor in 1392 and 1418. He was married to Ursula von Tanneck. From this marriage came Johannes, Elisabeth, granddaughter, Ursula, Suselin and Hans Ulrich Meyer von Wyler. In 1393 Hans sold a farm in Wutöschingen to the church in Waldshut and is still mentioned as the nurse of the hospital in 1415 and 1417. His eldest son Johannes received the Meyerthum in Weiler from the monastery of St. Peter on June 13, 1412. Whether this is identical with Hans Meyer the boy, who sat in the council in 1420 and 1425, and Hanmann M. and Junker Hans Meyer von Willer 1445, mentioned in 1423 and 1434, cannot be unequivocally clarified. His sister Elisabeth was a nun in the Günterstal monastery in 1417. Ursula was married to the Junker Rotlieb Rot. Her youngest brother, Hans Ulrich Meyer von Wyler, is mentioned in 1426 and 1459 as a council member of Freiburg, and in 1445 and 1464 even as the city's mayor. On November 11, 1436, Duke Friedrich the Elder accepted him into the Society of Sankt Jörgenschild and St. Wilhelm Schild, whose statutes he promised to comply with. He was allowed to sell the Meyertum in Weiler in 1442, and in 1459 was compared with that of Falkenstein because of the wild banks in the Kirchzarter Thale, with which he was enfeoffed by the Dukes of Austria in 1467 and 1478. In 1460, Hans Ulrich Meyger owned the house at Weylersburg on Herrenstrasse in Freiburg. He died on September 16, 1480, the last of his name. His widow Margaretha Rot, who had acquired citizenship in Freiburg, married Hans von Reischach, who in 1501 was enfeoffed by the archduke with the Meyerthum in Weiler after the Meyer von Weiler went out. - Anniversarium domicelli hans vdalrici meygers de wiler, hamanni meygers, patris ejus, Domine Ursule de Tannek, matris ejus, Domine Ursule de Tannek, sororis ejus, Johannis Rottlieb, filii ejus, Burkhardi Meygers de Aystetten, Domine Anne meynisium ejus., liberorum et antecessoruin .

It is not clear how the relationships between Thinanna Meigerin, who was named abbess of the Günterstal monastery in 1411, and Anna Meigerin quondam abbatissa, who died on September 9, 1418, are not clear, nor is it clear for Anna Meyerin von Wile, wife of Heinrich von Heudorf zu Eistetten 1446.

According to Christian Wurstisen , a Hans Ulrich Meier was killed on the Austrian side in the battle of the Bruderholz on March 22, 1499.
