The Meyers 200 is a single-engine small aircraft that was produced in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s .
construction and development
The Meyers 200 is a construction by Al Meyers and a further development of the Meyers MAC-145 . She set several speed records in her class and has an extremely robust hull . The resistance it receives in the cabin area by a structure made of chromium - molybdenum - steel tubes , with aluminum clad. The rear part of the fuselage is designed in half-shell construction.
Takeover by Aero Commander
In order to enter the US market with small aircraft, the Aero Commander division of North American Rockwell bought the rights to the Meyers 145 and the Meyers 200 in 1966. At that time, the Meyers 200 made an appearance in the film James Bond 007 - Man Lived only twice . However, it soon became apparent that the company was unable to produce the aircraft economically. Meyers Aircraft had practically built every aircraft by hand and when Aero Commander bought the rights to the aircraft types, there were no systems or tools for mass production . After Aero Commander spent around $ 4 million to build aircraft worth $ 3 million, the company stopped production in 1968 and sold the licenses to Interceptor Corporation. With the Interceptor 400, Interceptor developed a turboprop-powered version.
Others
No Meyers 200D has ever had an accident due to structural failure. Furthermore, it was never necessary for the Federal Aviation Administration to issue an airworthiness directive for these aircraft. The fuselage of the Meyers 200 behaves like the safety cage of a racing car in the event of a collision. When Meyers aircraft crash-landed, the occupants kept getting away with minor injuries.
