Micha Winkler (* 1958 in East Berlin ) is a German freelance photographer .

Life

Micha Winkler was born in East Berlin . Between 1975 and 1978 he completed vocational training as a machining specialist. While working as a house handyman (1979 to 1989), he received his first photo orders from newspapers. From 1986 to 1988 Winkler completed an education at the special school for photography in the district culture academy - Berlin-Mitte. After the fall of the Wall he worked as a theater photographer and for public relations at WERK - ART e. V. Berlin (1990-1993). He has been working as a freelance photographer since 1994. He is a member of the artist group Sela5.

Winkler works u. a. for early childhood , Westermann-Verlag and Urban & Fischer Verlag as well as edition discord , the daily press and the city of Bernau near Berlin with images.

The focus of his photography is contemporary music, especially jazz and punk , the rhythms of which he is able to capture in his pictures using special exposure techniques. Another specialty is working with the camera obscura . Recordings come from Berlin, London, Paris and Rome that capture life in its fleetingness. While buildings and trees are sharply depicted, the rapid movements of humans and animals blur into mere shapes and reveal the fleeting nature of their being.

Winkler works with analog photography for this. He also uses digital photography for his travel photography, for example from Ireland, Barcelona, ​​the Czech Republic and New Zealand.

Due to his 35 years of activity, Winkler has an archive with photo documents from the period before and after the fall of the Wall, in particular from the Berlin districts of Weißensee, Prenzlauer Berg, Marzahn and Mitte as well as from working environments from the GDR period from LPG to VEB Elektrokohle.

Winkler also passes on his experience, especially with the pinhole camera, to interested parties in workshops, for example at schools and in summer courses.
